Hello friends,
We’re back! And we’re coming at you with a new look and a big announcement: AI for the Rest of Us has evolved from just a newsletter to a full fledged business.
For the past couple of years, we’ve been working with executives at large companies to help them decide what to pursue and what to ignore with AI. It’s involved everything from training teams, to implementing AI chatbots into a company, to building custom AI products. We’re now making that official under the banner of AI for the Rest of Us.
Check out the new website here – and if you know someone who could benefit from what we do, please introduce us. I’m always around at [email protected].
Ok back to the newsletter.
The same great newsletter you’ve come to know and trust will remain. We will continue to put out regular content on Fridays, whether that’s a six-week series or a long form piece dropped every few months. We will also continue to give you what you need to know about AI and how you can put it to use in your life – at the office and at home.
Speaking of, back in late December, I posted a list of advice I’ve accumulated over three years of using AI chatbots every day and teaching people and businesses how to use them. It was meant to be a quick brain dump, but it got me thinking: there’s a lot more to unpack here.
So that’s what we’re doing. Over the next six weeks, I’m breaking down that post into a series of deeper dives – one topic per week, every Friday. That’s right, we’re going weekly for a bit. Consider it a mini-course in how to think about and actually use these tools.
This week’s topic: the mindset shift that changes everything.
Let’s get into it.

In the Know
Tell me if you’ve done this before: You’re looking for a piece of information, you open ChatGPT (or Claude or Gemini), type something like, “What’s the difference between a chimichanga and an enchilada?” Or maybe you ask it, “Can you microwave aluminum foil?” Or, “Do I need a passport to go to Texas?” (Wait y’all don’t ask questions like that?)
And it works. Kinda magically. You get an answer, usually more than you expected. And you don’t see those blue links and “Sponsored” buckets! You love it. But after a little while of doing this, something feels off. You’re reading headlines about AI coming for your job. You scroll your feed and see some hype guy talking about AI as if it’s a god. You hear your coworker say they use it for everything and wonder if he had a few too many chimichangas for lunch.
It can be super disappointing, confusing, and frustrating.
I’m here to (hopefully) change that.
Unlock the rest of this newsletter for only $1.
Become a member and pay $1 for the first month. As soon as you’re a member, you can read this edition and all previous ones on our website right away. And starting next week, you’ll get the full newsletter.
After your month is up, feel free to cancel – or better yet, stay a member and continue reaping the rewards.
And that wraps up another edition of AI for the Rest of Us.
Next week we’ll share why talking to these things – literally, out loud – might be one of the most underrated ways to use them. And why arguing with them is even better.
We hope you enjoyed this one, and as always, please share feedback if you’ve got it!
Until next time ...
